Ongoing public events at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
Meet at the Reserve (map). For more information call (831) 728-2822.

  • Tours of the Reserve - Join knowledgeable docents on a tour of the Reserve every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
  • Early Bird Tour - A special birding tour of the Reserve, the first Saturday of the month.
  • Greenhouse Volunteer Drop-in - Second Wednesday of every month, NEW TIME: 10am - 12:00 noon, at ESNERR. Join the ESNERR stewardship team for propagation activities in the nursery. Gloves, tools, and light snacks provided. for details.
  • Stewardship Volunteer Drop-in - Every Monday, except holidays at ESNERR. 9:30am - 11:30am. Projects and sites change weekly. We provide gloves, tools, and light snacks. for details.

Regular Reserve and Visitor Center hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Reserve and Visitor Center are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. When the Reserve is closed you cannot access the trails, restrooms,
visitor center, or bookstore.




May 6 - Special Spring Birding Walk for ESF Members

When: 7:30 am to 10:30 am
Where: Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve
Who: Members of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation

The Elkhorn Slough is a birding area of international importance.  Members of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation will have a special opportunity to enter the Reserve early and stroll the trails with birding expert Rick Fournier. 

Throughout the 3 hour tour you'll seek out hawks, owls, egrets, herons, woodpeckers, swallows and more.  It is a wonderful time to learn about the local birds while enjoying the Reserve.

This is a member event.  If you are not a member of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation, please join.  Your contributions help to conserve and restore the Elkhorn Slough and its watershed.

June 3 - Morning Kayak Tour

We will be launching from Moss Landing Harbor on this guided tour of the Elkhorn Slough.  You’ll have a chance to see sea otters, seals, sea lions, pelicans and more as you glide through the slough’s calm waters.  Tides will be gentle—this is a voyage suitable for beginners, but with enough to see to engage old pros.

Please register on or before May 28.

You have the option of renting a kayak OR bringing your own.
